At least this is my opinion, although it hurts more…
Yesterday we had a nice decent fencing practice in Erlangen and I felt quite good with what I was doing. I mean, yes, I died a lot of times, but through different hits, which means that I no longer have one spot which is the main target. And I’m fencing for style- and fun-reasons anyway, not for winning. 😉
I think, I need this special kind of agression – like drinking a glass of champagne before being on the stage – then it works quite good. Otherwise I’m to anxious and get hit to often. Sorry for bad english btw.
Dante ordered the Schläger for me from hanwei, hopefully I can deal with it … have a look: http://www.hanweishop.com/proddetail.php?prod=SH1099
Ulf, will you be at Coronation maybe? Otherwise wee might not see us, because I can’t manage going abroad that often 😦
Freydis, where are you now? What about the DoA ? I would love to do more with them.
Will post some fencing pictures as soon as I have uploaded them. And a curly-hair-pic for Arpad 😉

Not „Ulf“ Anna, „Jean-Loup“ 😉
We’re not planning on going to Coronation, mostly because they’re too dull for my liking. Though if I can plan things properly I may make it to a fencing event in Germany next year 🙂

Oh sorry, do you have another name or did I just mix it? *blush*
And who’s dull? the people? the weather? their majesties? 😉
would love if you could make it to a german event! :))

Not another name, I just use my real name and put Ulf 6 feet under about 2 years ago 😉
Courts are dull, Coronations have lots of courts therefore Coronations are dull. Just my opinion 😉
I’m keeping my eyes open for fencing events on the Kingdom calendar but I’m making no promises, it’ll all go down to budget 🙂

I’ll be at coronation, and already have things planned to do during the dullest courts. 🙂

Glad to hear you’re having fun there ^^
The Practical Hanwei is a good choice for starters on a budget. Hopefully your 37″ won’t be quite as wobbly as my 43″ but at least it should be light enough for you to handle.
I hope I get a chance to fight you some day 🙂

I agree – excellent to hear that you’re enjoying yourself!
My first rapier was the 37 inch Hanwei and it has been an excellent weapon. I too fence for fun and style rather than winning, and the Hanweii looks good and is fun to fight with, so it’s ideal as a starting rapier.
The only problem is that there are a lot of them about. An easy way to identify yours is to tie ribbons in your heraldic colours to the pommel.

So what do you fight with these days? Your Darkwood you got courtesy of your sis?
It’s been too long since I fought you I tell ya!

Indeed, I now fence with the Darkwoods, although I’m tempted to use the Hanweii blade because it’s only 37 inches – I ended up with 43 inch Darkwoods which are a lot heavier as well as being longer.
My other option is to put the Spanish cup-hilt that Celeste and Tristan brought me from Pennsic last year onto the Hanwei. OK, so the cup hilt is post-Period but it is designed precisely for my fencing style. 🙂

Stop fretting about the post period already. If that was an issue, the only period manuals you’d go with would be those prior to Giganti (not including it since it’s 1606) 😉
Just enjoy yourself 🙂
